An awards ceremony was held Friday by the local DAR chapter at The Cedars in Hendersonville for winners of the DAR American History Essay Contest, which was open to fifth- through eighth-graders. Four local students presented their winning essays on "A Colonial Family's Reaction to the Stamp Act" for members of the chapter in attendance, reflecting on the 250th anniversary of the Stamp Act on March 22, 2015.

American History Essay Contest 2016 - August, 2016

The winner of the Black History Month essay contest will win scholarship money to help with furthering their education.

Three eighth graders at Shady Side Academy Middle School won awards in the Third Annual Martin Luther King Jr. and Women's History Month Essay Contest, conducted by the Girls Coalition of Southwestern Pennsylvania and presented by UPMC. The winners will be recognized at a breakfast reception on Saturday, May 9, at The Ellis School, where they will receive their awards and share portions of their essays.
