The title of this popular publication suggests a work on aesthetics (and thus as an early version of the first half of Kant’s 1790 ), but the content is more in line with portions of what would become his popular lectures on anthropology (beginning with WS 1772/73). Other than the three essays on earthquakes, this was Kant’s first publication aimed at a general reading audience, and was the work by which Kant was best known at the time.
